This specification defines the operation of this system. It is based on a general, distributed model composed of searchable and publishing registries, as introduced at the beginning of this document. The main body of the specification has two components: (a) an interface for harvesting publishing registries, which builds upon the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting. (b) A VOResource extension for registering registry services and description of a central list of said IVOA registry services. Finally, this specification briefly discusses client interfaces to the Registry as provided by searchable registries. http://www.ivoa.net/documents/RegistryInterface Other Research 1.1 http://ivoa.net/xml/RegistryInterface/RegistryInterface-v1.0.xsd A small schema defining the global ri:Resource element used as a root element for VOResource records; it is necessary because VOResoruce itself defines no global elements by design. http://ivoa.net/xml/VORegistry/VORegistry-v1.0.xsd A VOResource extension defining resource and capability types for describing registry services.
